Ok, I know it’s a day late but that how my weekend has gone lol.
I really like this quote. Albert Einstein was such a remarkable human being. There were so many quotes of his I could have chosen but this one done it for me today.
It’s so easy to get stuck in a rut because we feel comfortable there. It’s easy. We know exactly what to do, how to do it and what the outcome will be. We know we will not make any mistakes and therefore experience no failure. This is the safe zone. We don’t have to suffer disappointment when we’re here. There’s no rejection. No feelings of inadequacy. Here, in this little bubble, we can feel good about ourselves. This is why we tend to stay in the same job for years and years or the same relationship, even if we’re not really happy. The fear of getting something wrong, making a mistake, is far greater than the urge to break free and try something new. The fear of being alone is one of the main reasons so many people stay in unhappy relationships.
What’s the worst that can happen?
Yes, you may know your job inside out and back to front. But are you happy? Ask yourself that question. Do you feel joy every day when you wake up? Does the thought of going into work fill you with excitement? Most of us would answer NO! There are a few that love their jobs but the majority of us continue with whatever line of work we are in because it’s easy. We know how to do it, we know our colleagues, we know how much we’re getting paid each month, it’s safe. So why stay? Because the fear of trying something new, something we don’t know inside out and back to front, is far greater than the urge to change. We fear failure. We fear rejection. We fear financial insecurity. Fear holds us back!
Look at the other side of the coin. If we did take that leap of faith, we could find something new that would fill us with joy every day. We could find the one thing that lights our internal fire and makes us want to jump out of bed each day and skip all the way to work! There may not be rejection. There may not be failure. There may be only joy. But what if there is failure? So what? Would it be the end of the world? Think how much we learn when we make mistakes. Think back to a time when you made a mistake. At the time it feels like the end of the world. But what did you learn from it? Did it send you in a direction you may never have taken, a direction that led to something far better than your original goal? How many times do you think the Wright brothers failed before they took their first flight? How many people told them they could not achieve their dreams? If they had listened to everyone around them telling them that man could not fly or if they had given up at their first failure where would we be today? How small would our world be? They wanted to try something new, they had a dream and the fear of failure did not enter their thoughts!
So if you’re stuck in a rut, take that risk. Try something new. Don’t fear making mistakes. Because sometimes, making mistakes, facing the fear leads to the biggest successes known to man.
Love and happiness
